Sweet and Savory Chinese BBQ Chicken

Directions:

In a large bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, five-spice powder, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and food coloring (if using).
Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) or prepare a grill for medium-high heat.
If roasting, place the marinated chicken on a wire rack over a lined baking sheet. Roast for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through and basting with extra marinade.
If grilling, brush the grill with vegetable oil and cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes per side, basting occasionally.
Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
