- Broth: low-sodium beef broth, vegetable broth, or low-sodium chicken broth
- Tomato paste: to give the soup flavor and thicken it
- Refrigerated cheese tortellini: can substitute frozen or dried
- Parmesan cheese: freshly grated is best
