Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy. - Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yogurt, olive oil, and milk, then pour in the activated yeast mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together. - Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes. - Let it Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size. - Shape the Naan:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten into an oval or round shape, about ¼ inch thick. - Cook the Naan:
Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Lightly grease the pan. Place one rolled-out naan in the pan. Cook for 1–2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side for another 1–2 minutes. Repeat for all pieces. - Optional Toppings:
Brush the warm naan with melted butter, garlic, or herbs as desired. - Serve:
Serve warm with your favorite dishes or dips!
