Cheese Twisted Bread

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
    3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5-7 minutes.
    4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    1. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil.
    2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
  3. Assemble the Bread:
    1. Brush the dough with the melted butter mixture.
    2. Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese and grated Parmesan over the dough.
    3. Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
    4. Using a sharp knife, cut the log in half lengthwise, exposing the layers of dough and cheese.
    5. Twist the two halves together, keeping the cut sides facing up. Pinch the ends to seal.
  4. Bake the Bread:
    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
    2. Place the twisted bread on the prepared baking sheet. Cover it with a clean cloth and let it rise for another 20-30 minutes.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Add the Finishing Touch:
    1. While the bread is baking, combine the melted butter and garlic powder for the topping.
    2. Once the bread is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately brush it with the garlic butter.
    3. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
