Instructions:
- Prepare the Dumpling Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Stir in the milk and melted butter to form a soft dough. Set aside.
- Make the Syrup:
- In a saucepan, mix water, brown sugar, and butter. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to simmer for 3–5 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Cook the Dumplings:
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering syrup.
- Cover the pan and cook for 10–12 minutes or until the dumplings are puffed and golden brown on the top.
- Caramelize:
- Optional: Transfer the cooked dumplings to a broiler-safe dish and place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the tops are nicely caramelized.
- Serve:
- Once golden and caramelized, transfer the dumplings to serving bowls. Spoon extra syrup over the top.
- Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy warm. Add whipped cream for extra indulgence!
